Abstract: In Tourism and Marketing Management and also among the Behavioral Sciences, an interesting field of research is related to the measurement of the importance that the images perceived by the spectators have in their destination choices, with possible impacts on the local economy of these destinations. To evaluate this effect on viewers of the Tomar’s Film Society (a medium sized city in Portugal) a survey was conducted during a series of movie screenings. The applied questionnaire was developed in the Film Tourism subproject and some of the questions correspond to categorical variables (in nominal and ordinal scale). To characterize the random sample an exploratory data analysis was performed using sociodemographic variables. Nonparametric statistical tests were also applied to analyse the independence between the variable “gender” and variables “visiting a place by influence of a film” or “Destination-dream by strong influence of a film”. The decision was, not to reject the hypothesis of independence, therefore, there is no statistical evidence to consider a dependence between the combinations of these two variables. To assess the association between some variables, such as "education level" and "the average number of activities of Film Tourism" or between “professional situation” and “the impact of a movie in the tourism destination” the Spearman's correlation coefficient was used and the correlations obtained are statistically significant.
