Abstract: The evolution of wireless communication leads to an intelligent era bringing variety of vertical applications such as autonomous driving, consumer and industrial IoT, the system with artificial intelligence capabilities, exploiting at the same time neural networks and machine learning. Today as 5G is preparing to be rolled-out, the goal is to project what we will need. Thus, finding a step beyond 5G is of a huge interest, not only for academia, but also in industry. The growing trend of Software Defined Radio and Software Networking is a factor in paving the way towards 6G. It means that the future technologies will be easier to adapt with cloud-based resources and software loads enabling cooperation of existing 4G and 5G equipment to enable further applications. After presenting key trends and design challenges in the next generation networks (wireless road map, massive connectivity, tactile internet, the end-to-end slice management), 5G and beyond technology enablers are analyzed.Further contributions to this field. which go to facilitating integration with the existing solutions are emphasized. Next, the main advantages of the promising technologies compared to other techniques are highlighted, Finally, research activities and guideline concerning non orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) for 5G and beyond, together with massive MIMO-based hybrid HetNets, mmWave, cognitive radio and device-to-device communications are underlined.
