Performance of Macrodiversity SC Receiver in the Presence of Short Term Fading, Gamma Long Term Fading and Co-channel Interference

Professor Dragana Krstic
Faculty of Electronic Engineering
University of Nis

Abstract: In this lecture, macrodiversity reception with macrodiversity (MAD) selection combining (SC) receiver and two or more microdiversity (MID) receivers operating over Gamma shadowed multipath fading channel in the presence of cochannel interference subjected to short term fading and Gamma long term fading is observed.
In interference limited channel, the ratio of desired signal envelope and interference is important performance measure. For considered model, the signal to interference ratio (SIR) can be calculated as the ratio of two products of square rooted Gamma random variable and random variable with Nakagami-m, Weibul or other fading distribution. Then, the closed form expressions for probability density function (PDF), moments and moment generating function (MGF) of output SIR are calculated.
For determination the level crossing rate (LCR) of the MAD SC receiver output signal, level crossing rate of the ratio of two random processes is evaluated and used for calculation the LCR of the MID receivers output signals. Finally, the closed form expression of LCR at the output of MAD SC receiver is determined. The influence of Gamma long term fading severity parameter, Gamma long term fading correlation coefficient, multipath fading parameter of desired signal and multipath fading parameter of cochannel interference on LCR of MAD system is studied and discussed.
