Keynote Lecture
CNN: A Brain-Like Supercomputer on A Chip

Professor Leon O. Chua
University of California, Berkeley
CA, USA
Abstract: This lecture will present an introduction to
a new paradigm on computing based on nonlinear dynamics on cellular
nonlinear networks, evolving towards very high-dimensional stationary and
dynamic attractors. The latest commercial chip based on this new technology
will be described , along with numerous applications, including real-time
pattern recognition and emulation of high-level brain functions. The CNN
chip is a complete computer on a chip which can be programmed to solve many
mission-critical problems currently solvable only on supercomputers.
Brief Biography of the Speaker:
Leon Chua is a foreign member of the Academia Europea and a recipient of 8
USA patents. He has been awarded 12 Docteur Honoris Causa from European
universities. He has received many international prizes, including the first
IEEE Kirchhoff Award, the Neural Networks Pioneer Award, and the Vitold
Belevitch Award. He has received the "Top 15 Cited Authors " Award ,
reckoned from papers cited in all fields of Engineering in the ISA Citation
Index from l991 to 200l.
