Music Information Modelling and Retrieval (MIMR)

within the
8th WSEAS International Conference on
ACOUSTICS and MUSIC: THEORY and APPLICATIONS (AMTA '07)
Vancouver, Canada, June 19-21, 2007
http://www.wseas.org/conferences/2007/canada/amta

The rapid growth of Internet-based services, multimedia technology, and development of new standards has made content-based retrieval and analysis of multimedia information an increasingly important field of research.
Music information modelling and retrieval (MIMR) is such a complex and multi-dimensional research problem, many diverse groups of scholars, researchers, and interested parties have begun to explore MIMR issues within the frameworks of their particular disciplines. These groups include music and digital librarians, computer scientists, audio engineers, music publishers and retailers, musicologists, information retrieval specialists, intellectual property lawyers, music hobbyists, music psychologists, educators, Internet content providers, broadcasters, and business managers.
With the explosive amount of music data available on the internet in recent years, there has been much interest in developing new ways to search and retrieve such data effectively. Multimedia databases play an important role, especially in the context of online systems available on the World Wide Web. As these databases grow in number, size, and complexity, it becomes increasingly important to provide flexible and efficient modeling and retrieval techniques.
The main objective of this special session is to provide an overview of the current status of music information modelling and retrieval (MIMR) for audio signals.

Topics:

Topics to be covered may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Music representation and indexing

  • Estimating similarity of music

  • Building up music databases

  • Evaluation of music-IR systems

  • User interfaces for music IR

  • Language modeling for music
